He tried his best to be perfect knowing he couldn’t.
He did everything in his power,
from making her watch the stars with him
to talking over the phone till sunrise,
to writing letters.
He kept trying to be a someone for her
someone who cared for her,
someone who cheered her,
someone who encouraged her.
and all she did, if she did at all, was to make it harder for him
she severed every new thread he wove
she shut every door he knocked
she built walls, placing the bricks as gently as she could
What drove her away, she knew not
What drove him closer, he knew not
What would become of them, knew no one.
